Yellow is sunshine and happy radiance. But like red, yellow can also stir up conflicting emotions. While some find a sunny yellow invigorating, it has been shown that people lose their tempers more easily in bright yellow rooms, and that babies are harder to soothe in bright yellow nurseries. Culturally, yellow has been used in conflicting symbolic circumstances as well. Yellow is used to signify courage and hope, as in the wartime yellow ribbon, yet is also associated with cowardice as in the slang, "yellow belly". Yellow signifies death and mourning in Egypt, while it stands for courage in Japan. Although yellow can be used as the primary color when painting a room, it is most popular when used as an accent. Yellow can add a dash of brightness to a palette of subdued blues and grays or in combination with orange for a summery citrus feel.
