leed credit worthy

Many finishes by California Paints are LEED credit worthy, and will earn valuable Indoor Air Quality points under the Indoor Environmental Quality LEED category. Guidelines for specific programs can be found on the LEED section of the U.S. Green Building Council¹s (USGBC) website and the products that are LEED Credit Worthy can be found in the Product listing.

The LEED (The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System, was first developed by the U.S. Green Building Council(USGBC) in 1998 as a way to encourage the development and implementation of green building practices. LEED has become the pre-eminent green building rating system in the U.S. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Projects must meet certain prerequisites and performance benchmarks within each category, and are then awarded Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification based upon the number of credits they achieve. The LEED plaque is recognized proof that a building is environmentally responsible, profitable, and a healthy place to live and work.

Voc’s

The term “VOC” is a hot word in the paint industry right now. There is much talk about “low VOC” and even Zero or No VOC”. But what are these VOC’s exactly? “VOC” stands for “volatile organic compounds”. VOC’s are emitted as gases from certain liquids such as some paints. These gases include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short and long-term adverse health effects. VOC’s are the cause of that harsh “new paint” smell that many find offensive.  It is a common complaint that when VOCs are extracted from a finish, a degree of the product’s performance is also lost.

zero voc

California Paints has taken VOC technology a step further. After rigorous research and development, California discovered a way to create Zero VOC paint without sacrificing the quality of the finish. California’s Zero VOC finishes have essentially no odor, rendering the time consuming and necessary process of airing out a freshly painted room, a thing of the past. After painting a room with California’s Zero VOC finishes, the room is immediately inhabitable. Zero VOC finishes are the best choice for those with odor sensitivity. This quality combined with the germ fighting power of Microban, makes Zero VOC products the best choices when painting hospitals, daycare centers, homes, schools and elderly housing facilities. Check our Product listing page to find out the ZERO VOC products.

low voc

In response to growing environmental concerns over the past years, paint companies began making paint that was “low VOC”. These finishes have a lower volume of  VOC’s than traditional formulas. Although these low VOC paints were far less odorous, they lacked the durability of regular paint. Over time, low VOC paints were improved and are now fairly commonplace, and generally perform nearly as well as traditional paint formulas. Check our  Product listing page to find out the LOW VOC products.

Enviro-Quality Quotient

With resource conservation at the forefront of its development, California Paints developed ELEMENTS as an integral part of the Enviro-Quality Quotient (EQQ). EQQ underscores the importance of using a high quality product to minimize the impact on the environment and save time and money. Choosing an environmental paint that is low quality means you have to use more product to complete a job and you will have to paint more often- sometimes doubling the impact on your wallet and the earth! Using EQQ products to get the job done right the first time, means savings for you, and a lesser impact on the environment.

EQQ products are specifically formulated to provide ultimate one coat coverage, which utilizes less paint per project. It ultimately means less impact on the planet and your wallet.

EQQ products are ultra long lasting. This signature attribute means that you can wash your painted surface without damaging the finish, keeping your room looking better longer without having to repaint.

EQQ products are formulated with a unique 100% acrylic binder that ensures an ultra long lasting paint job. You’ll save time, money, energy and the environment by not having to repaint.
