Red is hot. Think of a smoldering fire or the natural blush of a flushed cheek. Red conjures up a strong tangle of emotions – the violence of warfare and the passion of physical love. Red finds itself the color of both Devil and Cupid. Red is also a meaningful color in many cultures around the world. In China red symbolizes luck and prosperity. In India, red symbolizes purity and is often used in wedding outfits. When painting with red it is important to remember the strong qualities of this powerful color. A deep red can make a room appear smaller, while bright red accents can enliven a room and make it seem larger. Red is often a good color for dining areas as it is believed to raise blood pressure and stir the appetite. However it is used, red will always add drama to any space.
